Programs Mission Statement:
The mission of the Emergency Medical Technology (EMT) Program is to
provide instruction and training to enable the student to consistently
provide prehospital care in a safe and competent manner. The purpose
and focus of the EMT Program’s is to present the student with the tools
necessary to successfully obtain state EMT-B certification and obtain
employment in this capacity.
The EMT Program’s mission/purpose is aligned with the mission of
Pasadena City College in promoting success. The EMT Program
accomplishes this by providing high quality academically rigorous
instruction and training. The EMT Program improves the economic
condition and quality of life in the diverse communities within the College
service area by providing students with new job skills. Successful
completion of the EMT course allows students to seek employment as
emergency medical technicians and improves access to other health care
and emergency service jobs.
Program Description:
The EMT curriculum provides the student with the necessary skills to seek
employment with ambulance service companies as an Emergency
Medical Technicians - Basic. Emphasis is on the fundamental principles
and skills required to provide emergency medical care for patients at the
scene of an accident or the onset of sudden illness and during transport to
a medical care facility.
Upon completion of the EMT-B Curriculum the student will receive a
Certificate of Completion and is eligible to take the National Registry of
Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) examination for an Emergency
Medical Technician -B.
A grade of C or better must be achieved to receive a Certificate of
Completion.
Prerequisites:
1. Minimum age of 18.
2. A completed health form evidencing good physical and emotional health
including required immunizations.
